22 Common Physical Symptoms of Kundalini Awakening

Kundalini awakening is a concept rooted in Hindu and yogic traditions that refers to the spiritual awakening of an individual’s dormant energy. It is believed to be a process of self-realization and enlightenment. While experiences vary widely among individuals, some common physical symptoms associated with Kundalini awakening may include:

1. Intense Heat or Cold Sensations

During a Kundalini awakening, individuals may experience intense heat or cold sensations throughout their body. It is as if the body’s internal temperature is fluctuating, causing waves of warmth or coolness to wash over them. This sensation can be quite surprising and may leave individuals feeling as though they are on a rollercoaster ride of temperature extremes.

2. Tingling or Vibrating Sensations

One of the most commonly reported physical symptoms of Kundalini awakening is the sensation of tingling or vibrating throughout the body. It is as if the energy within is buzzing and pulsating, creating a feeling of electricity running through the veins. This tingling or vibrating sensation can be quite intense, especially during moments of deep meditation or spiritual connection.

3. Spontaneous Body Movements or Tremors

Another physical symptom that may arise during Kundalini awakening is the occurrence of spontaneous body movements or tremors. These movements can range from subtle twitches to full-body shaking. It is as if the awakened energy is finding its way through the body, releasing any blockages or stagnant energy along the way. These movements can be involuntary and may happen at any time, even during sleep.

4. Sensitivity to Light and Sound

As the Kundalini energy rises, individuals may notice an increased sensitivity to light and sound. Bright lights may feel overpowering, and loud noises may become overwhelming. This heightened sensitivity is a result of the heightened awareness that accompanies the awakening process. It is as if the senses become more finely tuned, allowing individuals to perceive the world with greater clarity and depth.

5. Increased Energy Levels

One of the most significant physical changes that occur during Kundalini awakening is a surge in energy levels. It is as if a dormant powerhouse has been activated within, providing individuals with a newfound vitality and vigor. This increase in energy can manifest as a constant buzz or feeling of electricity in the body. It may also lead to a desire for physical activity or a need to express this newfound energy through creative outlets.

6. Changes in Breathing Patterns

As the Kundalini energy awakens, individuals may notice changes in their breathing patterns. The breath becomes deeper and more rhythmic, allowing for a greater flow of energy throughout the body. Some may experience spontaneous breathwork, where the breath seems to have a mind of its own, guiding individuals into deeper states of relaxation and connection.

7. Feeling of Pressure or Fullness in Certain Body Parts

During Kundalini awakening, individuals may experience a feeling of pressure or fullness in certain body parts. This sensation is often felt in the head, chest, or abdomen, as if there is an energetic buildup in these areas. It is as if the Kundalini energy is working its way through the energetic channels, expanding and releasing any blockages along the way.

8. Muscle Tension or Soreness

The awakening of Kundalini energy can also lead to muscle tension or soreness in the body. This is especially common in areas where energy is being released or where blockages are being cleared. It is as if the body is going through a process of energetic detoxification, and these physical sensations are a sign that the process is underway.

9. Alterations in Sexual Energy and Sensations

During Kundalini awakening, individuals may notice alterations in their sexual energy and sensations. This can manifest as an increase or decrease in libido, as well as changes in the way pleasure is experienced. It is as if the awakening process is realigning and recalibrating the individual’s relationship with their own sexual energy, allowing for a more profound and fulfilling experience.

10. Digestive Issues or Stomach Sensitivities

Some individuals may experience digestive issues or stomach sensitivities during Kundalini awakening. This can include symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, or changes in appetite. These physical manifestations are often a reflection of the energetic shifts happening within the body. It is as if the digestive system is recalibrating and adjusting to accommodate the heightened energy flow.

11. Changes in Sleep Patterns and Dreams

Kundalini awakening can also impact sleep patterns and dreams. Some individuals may find themselves needing less sleep, while others may experience more vivid or lucid dreams. It is as if the awakening process is opening up new channels of communication with the subconscious mind, allowing for a deeper exploration of one’s inner world during sleep.

12. Emotional and Psychological Turmoil

Alongside the physical symptoms, Kundalini awakening can also give rise to emotional and psychological turmoil. This can include feelings of intense joy, sadness, anger, or confusion. It is as if the awakening process is stirring up unresolved emotions and bringing them to the surface for healing and release. This can be a challenging aspect of the awakening journey, but it is a necessary step towards greater emotional and psychological well-being.

13. Heightened Sensitivity to Energy and Surroundings

As the Kundalini energy rises, individuals may find themselves becoming more sensitive to the energy around them. They may be able to pick up on subtle shifts in the environment or sense the emotions of others more acutely. It is as if the awakening process is expanding their energetic awareness, allowing them to navigate the world with greater sensitivity and intuition.

14. Physical Sensations in the Spine or Chakra Points

A prominent physical symptom of Kundalini awakening is the experience of physical sensations in the spine or chakra points. This can manifest as a feeling of warmth, pressure, or tingling along the spine or at specific points along the body’s energetic centers. It is as if the Kundalini energy is moving through these channels, activating and aligning the chakras for optimal energetic flow.

15. Headaches or Migraines

Headaches or migraines can occur during Kundalini awakening as the energy works its way through the energetic channels. These headaches can range from mild discomfort to intense pain and are often a sign of energetic shifts happening within the body. It is important to stay hydrated, practice self-care, and seek relief through relaxation techniques or gentle movement.

16. Dizziness or Vertigo

Some individuals may experience dizziness or vertigo during Kundalini awakening. This can be a result of the energetic shifts and the body’s adjustment to the heightened energy flow. It is important to take it slow and ground oneself during these episodes, allowing the body to recalibrate and find balance.

17. Skin Sensations or Rashes

Skin sensations or rashes may also occur during Kundalini awakening. These can manifest as itching, tingling, or even the appearance of a rash or hives. These physical manifestations are often a reflection of the body’s detoxification process and the release of stored energy. It is important to listen to the body’s signals and provide appropriate care and nourishment.

18. Changes in Appetite or Eating Habits

Kundalini awakening can bring about changes in appetite or eating habits. Some individuals may find themselves craving different types of foods or experiencing fluctuations in hunger levels. It is as if the awakening process is realigning the body’s nutritional needs and bringing awareness to the connection between food and energy.

19. Increased or Decreased Sensitivity to Pain

Another physical symptom of Kundalini awakening is an increase or decrease in sensitivity to pain. Some individuals may find themselves becoming more sensitive to physical discomfort, while others may experience a numbing or dulling of pain sensations. It is as if the awakening process is fine-tuning the body’s pain receptors and recalibrating the individual’s relationship with pain.

20. Changes in Body Temperature or Sweating Patterns

Changes in body temperature or sweating patterns can also occur during Kundalini awakening. Some individuals may experience hot flashes or excessive sweating, while others may notice a decrease in body temperature or a feeling of coolness. These physical manifestations are often a reflection of the body’s adjustment to the heightened energy flow.

21. Fluctuations in Blood Pressure or Heart Rate

During Kundalini awakening, individuals may experience fluctuations in blood pressure or heart rate. It is as if the awakening process is recalibrating the body’s cardiovascular system to accommodate the increased energy flow. It is important to monitor these changes and consult with a healthcare professional if necessary.

22. Impaired or Heightened Sense of Smell or Taste

An impaired or heightened sense of smell or taste can also be a physical symptom of Kundalini awakening. Some individuals may notice a heightened ability to detect subtle scents or taste nuances in food. Others may experience a temporary loss or distortion of these senses. It is as if the awakening process is recalibrating the sensory receptors to enhance the individual’s connection to the physical world.

It’s important to note that Kundalini awakening is a highly subjective and personal experience. Individuals may not experience all of these symptoms, and the intensity can vary. Additionally, some people may not have any physical symptoms at all. It’s advisable for individuals undergoing such experiences to seek guidance from experienced practitioners or spiritual teachers to navigate the process safely and with understanding. If someone is unsure about their physical symptoms, consulting with a healthcare professional is also recommended to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

  1. Thank you Jeni for the detailed explanation.
I also have experience with a lot of your discussed ‘problems’ on a daily basis, especially in bed before and when I wake up.
What I want to ask you: I suffer terribly from pain in my legs, even at night. Could this also be due to the kundalini and how can I improve it?
I do yoga 3 times a week in the morning and end this with meditation in the siddhasana pose, which is always accompanied by orgasm-like movements in my body.

  2. Thank you.

I feel sometime some of these symptoms, the one that bothers me the most is the felling of pressure in my spine, started in the base and is coming up, specially when I meditate, the other is my body temperature, I feel too cold most of the time.

I’m gonna continue doing my meditation but I will take it a little slower in the practice until I feel better.

    Thank you!

    🙌🏽
